Bribery Commission Probes Parliament Over Speaker Allegations and Ex-Deputy SG Complaints

The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) is actively investigating multiple complaints involving Parliament. Three senior parliamentary officials, including the Deputy Director (Admin), Assistant Director (Finance), and Transport Officer, appeared before the commission to provide information regarding alleged corruption and financial abuse against Speaker Dr. Jagath Wickremaratne. Concurrently, the CIABOC is examining complaints against former Deputy Secretary-General Chaminda Kularatne, who was questioned for nearly five hours on the process of his appointment. Kularatne has also filed counter-complaints and is reportedly challenging his own suspension from his position. The commission has requested relevant documents and personnel from Parliament for both ongoing inquiries.
