Sri Lanka Customs officers at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) have arrested a 24-year-old passenger attempting to smuggle over 8.365 kilograms of 'Kush' cannabis into the country. The narcotics, valued at approximately Rs. 83.65 million, were discovered concealed within the suspect's luggage. The individual, identified as a cashier residing in Gampaha, was apprehended while attempting to pass through the airport's "Green Channel." The suspect had arrived from Bangkok, Thailand, on a SriLankan Airlines flight. Authorities have handed over the suspect and the seized drugs to the Police Narcotics Bureau for further investigations.

The value of the seized 'Kush' cannabis has been updated to Rs. 418 million. The arrested individuals are two Sri Lankan passengers, identified as cousins by marriage: a 30-year-old drug trafficker from Badovita and a 26-year-old incense trader from Negombo. The drugs were found in 13 packets within two travel bags. The arrest was made by Airport Police Narcotics Bureau officers early on May 30th.
