Bar Association Expresses Grave Concern Over President's Remarks on Upcoming Judicial Decision

The Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) has expressed grave concern over remarks made by the President at a recent May Day rally, where he alluded to a judicial decision expected on May 25, suggesting the audience would be able to applaud the outcome. The BASL stated that the nature of the remark implies potential interference with the judicial process and could erode public confidence in the judiciary. The association emphasized that judicial independence is a cornerstone of the rule of law. Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa and the United Opposition have also called for the President to withdraw his statement and for the government to cease targeting the judiciary.
