Sri Lankan authorities have conducted multiple operations in the Kalpitiya area, seizing substantial quantities of illegally imported goods. The Sri Lanka Navy conducted a two-day special search operation on April 6th and 7th across the Kalpitiya, Bangalawatta, and Sethawadi coastal areas. This operation resulted in the seizure of approximately 907 kilograms of dried turmeric, found hidden in sacks. Separately, the Kalpitiya Police, acting on intelligence, carried out a raid on April 14th in the Nachchikalliya area. During this operation, police intercepted a lorry and arrested one suspect, a 35-year-old resident of Pallivasalthurai, Kalpitiya. The lorry was found to be transporting 742 kilograms of turmeric and 800 kilograms of cashew nuts, all suspected to have been illegally imported via sea routes and valued at millions of rupees. Investigations are ongoing into the smuggling methods and associated networks.
