Attorney General to File Indictments Against Ex-IGP Tennakoon Over 2022 Protest Attack

The Attorney General has notified the Supreme Court that indictments are anticipated within one month against former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Deshabandu Tennakoon. These charges are related to the ongoing investigations into the 2022 attack on the 'Aragalaya' protest movement at Galle Face Green. The announcement was made during Supreme Court proceedings concerning an appeal filed by the AG. This appeal challenges a prior Court of Appeal ruling that had nullified a directive to name Tennakoon as a suspect in the case. The Supreme Court was apprised of these developments yesterday.
