Aswesuma Welfare Payments: June Allowances Credited, July Resumption Planned Amidst Data Updates

The Welfare Benefits Board of Sri Lanka has announced that June allowances for the first phase of the 'Aswesuma' welfare program have been credited, totaling over Rs. 10.9 billion for 1,373,248 beneficiary families. The board also confirmed that payments for the first round of recipients are scheduled to resume in July, following the completion of beneficiary surveys expected by the end of May. Data updates for recipients from 2023 are ongoing, with the benefit period for some extended until June. Meanwhile, September payments were previously credited on a Wednesday, benefiting nearly a million families in the first phase and over 200,000 in the second. The Chairman of the Welfare Benefits Board, Nimal Kotawalagedara, has warned that strict legal action will be taken against individuals found to have provided false information or obtained benefits fraudulently.
