Appeals Tribunal Recommends DIG Promotion for Shani Abeysekara

The Administrative Appeals Tribunal has recommended the promotion of Senior Superintendent of Police and Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Director Shani Abeysekara to the rank of Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG). This decision, made after considering an appeal, directs the National Police Commission to proceed with the promotion. The elevation is set to take effect from August 25, 2026. The tribunal also ordered the payment of all arrears of salary and allowances lost by Abeysekara since his suspension.
