Anuradhapura Atamasthanadhipathi Granted Bail on Strict Conditions in Minor Abuse Case

Anuradhapura Chief Magistrate’s Court has ordered the release on bail of Ven. Pallegama Hemarathana Thera, the Atamasthanadhipathi of Anuradhapura, who is accused of serious sexual abuse of a minor girl. The court granted bail on two personal sureties of Rs. 5 million each, a Rs. 100,000 cash bail, and imposed a foreign travel ban. The victim’s mother, who was also remanded for allegedly aiding and abetting the offence, was similarly released on strict bail conditions. The magistrate warned that the bail order would be revoked if conditions were violated or witnesses were influenced.
