Ampara Police Shoot Suspect Who Fled Custody After Liquor Raid

A suspect involved in an illicit liquor racket was shot and apprehended by police in Ampara on May 18th, after escaping custody. The incident followed an earlier raid by the Police Special Task Force (STF) in Kotavehera village, where the suspect was initially arrested for possessing 3000ml of illicit liquor. While being transferred to the hospital, the suspect reportedly obstructed officers and fled police custody. During a subsequent attempt to re-arrest him, the suspect sustained a gunshot injury. The injured suspect and one police officer have been admitted to Ampara General Hospital.
