Adverse Weather Disrupts Flights at Katunayake Airport

On the night of March 31, 2026, flights arriving at Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) in Katunayake faced disruptions due to sudden heavy rainfall and poor visibility. A China Eastern Airlines flight, originating from Kunming, was unable to land at BIA and was consequently diverted to Mattala International Airport (MIA). Additionally, several other incoming flights, including those from Emirates, Air Asia, and SriLankan Airlines, were delayed and had to circle in the air before landing. The Civil Aviation Authority Director General and airport officials confirmed these operational delays.
