84% of Sri Lankans Willing to Donate Eyes, Ministry Reports

According to the Ministry of Health, a substantial 84% of Sri Lanka's population has indicated their willingness to donate their eyes. The National Eye Bank, established 15 years ago, has received approximately 17,000 corneas, successfully transplanting 12,000 of these to patients within the country. Furthermore, between 4,000 and 5,000 corneas have been provided to other nations in response to international demand. The institution is recognized globally, with ongoing requests for corneas from countries including Singapore and South Africa.
