Thirty-seven Chinese nationals, including one woman, were arrested in the Koswatta area of Thalangama on suspicion of engaging in online scams and cybercrimes. The arrests followed a joint operation by the Walana Central Anti-Vice Task Force and the Thalangama Police. During the raid on a rented house, authorities seized 35 desktop computers, 37 tablets, 147 mobile phones, and 100 SIM cards, along with 2,100 sticks of foreign cigarettes. The suspects reportedly arrived in Sri Lanka on tourist visas and were allegedly operating an illegal service. The house and all seized devices have been sealed by the police.

37 Chinese nationals previously arrested for suspected online scams have been deported from Sri Lanka after being found in violation of immigration laws. In a separate development, 30 Chinese and Vietnamese nationals were arrested in Boralasgamuwa on suspicion of orchestrating cyber scams.
