US Embassy Denies Reports of FBI Team in Sri Lanka Investigating Treasury Cyber Fraud

The United States Embassy in Colombo has officially denied reports circulating in local media that an FBI "team" had arrived in Sri Lanka. These reports suggested the team was intended to assist investigations into a cyber fraud concerning USD 2.5 million in Sri Lankan Treasury funds. A spokesperson for the Embassy clarified that "no such deployment has occurred." The Embassy also noted that maintaining an FBI Legal Attaché presence at the Embassy is standard practice to coordinate law enforcement cooperation with host nation counterparts when requested.
