The incident occurred on the evening of May 18th at a shop in Angoda, Mulleriyawa, where the suspect, a three-wheeler driver, reportedly poured petrol on his wife and ignited it. He confessed to the crime, citing a family dispute and suspicion over her associations as the motive. The victim sustained severe burns to her face and chest and is currently in critical condition in the ICU of Colombo National Hospital. The suspect, identified as 41-year-old three-wheeler driver Hettiarachchilage Don Ruwan Dhanushka, a resident of Angoda, Meegahawatta, was arrested on Tuesday (22nd) in the Mulleriyawa police division. He appeared in court on Wednesday (23rd) and was remanded until May 25th by the Colombo Fort Magistrate. The incident, which occurred on May 18th around 5:30 p.m., involved the suspect allegedly pouring petrol on his 49-year-old wife before setting her on fire and fleeing. The victim remains in the intensive care unit of the National Hospital, Colombo.
